Rupinder Chera

Co-Director / Co-Directrice

Rupi is currently working as a Knowledge Broker at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She has worked on various projects, including with children and adolescents as well as Aboriginal populations. Rupi is interested in working towards health security for marginalized individuals, developing innovative solutions through a multi-sectoral approach. She has an Honours Bachelor of Science with a major in Human Biology and minors in Sociology and Botany from the University of Toronto, a Doctor of Medicine degree from SABA University School of Medicine, and a Master’s of Public Health from Western University. In her spare time, Rupi loves baking, watching movies, travelling, working out at the gym and spending time with family and friends.

Alex Kwok

Co-director / Co-directeur

Alex Kwok is a researcher at Arthritis Research Canada (ARC) base in Vancouver, BC where he leads a multi-province randomized controlled trial study evaluating the effectiveness of an online learning program to help people with inflammatory arthritis stay employed and to prevent work disability. Previously, he has worked in India and Cameroon on research projects related to health access and issues on water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH). Alex is passionate about health equity, disease prevention and prediction (epidemiology), health system strengthening, and health policy. He obtained his Master in Global Health at Maastricht University and a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science at the University of British Columbia. In his spare time, Alex enjoys swimming, traveling, and catching up with friends and family. 

Yoshith Perera

Program Advisor / Conseiller de Programme

Travaillant à la fois dans les domaines de la communication et de la santé publique, titulaire d’une maîtrise en santé publique de l'Université Western et de compétences cliniques acquises en tant que professionnel de la santé, Yoshith Perera est un défenseur des services de santé culturellement adaptés. Il collabore actuellement à des projets avec l'Alliance canadienne de surveillance régionale des facteurs de risque et la Fédération mondiale des associations de santé publique. Sa passion pour l'équité en santé l’a amené à créer, à Peel, un événement axé sur la nécessité de fournir des services de santé adaptés aux réfugiés au Canada. Pendant ses temps libres, vous le verrez au cinéma ou en train de prendre férocement part à des compétitions de parole en public ou à des joutes oratoires.

Sonia Massey

Sonia is a fourth-year undergraduate at the University of Michigan, studying Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience (BCN), with minors in Entrepreneurship and Gender and Health. Sonia is passionate about public health and enjoys exploring the intersection of psychology, healthcare, and entrepreneurship, She is the Global Health Intern for Sayva, a social impact engineering organization that is currently focused on developing a low cost medical solution to aid infant health in low and middle income countries. She also is the Co-Director of the local partner committee for the student-led nonprofit GlobeMed, where she helped design an after school program to improve health awareness amongst children in a community of Detroit. Sonia plans to pursue a masters degree in public health to prepare to work on health policy. In her free time, Sonia enjoys traveling and spending time with friends and family.  

Shanna Sunley

Shanna est titulaire d'une maîtrise en santé publique de la London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, où elle a étudié en tant que boursière du Commonwealth. Elle a une grande expérience en santé mondiale dans des organismes sans but lucratif, de recherche et gouvernementaux au Ghana, en Tanzanie, au Royaume-Uni et au Canada, y compris avec Development Media International,  Médecins du Monde Royaume-Uni, Youth Challenge International, le CUSO et la Croix-Rouge canadienne. Elle est actuellement analyste des politiques à l'Agence de la santé publique du Canada où elle travaille sur des questions internationales de santé et de droits des enfants. Elle est passionnée de voyage et a visité plus de 30 pays (pour l’instant!) sur sa liste sans cesse croissante de pays à visiter.

Tammaso D'Ovidio

Tommaso D'Ovidio poursuit une maîtrise ès sciences en méthodologie de la recherche en santé avec une spécialisation en recherche sur les services de santé. Sa passion pour la santé mondiale a évolué au cours d’une année passée comme EJP avec le programme MentorNet. Présentement, Tommaso travaille à l'Université McMaster avec Health Systems Evidence – la plus complète base de données du monde en matière de système de santé. Son but est de créer des structures à même de fournir les conseils et les outils nécessaires aux groupes d'intervenants dans les pays en voie de développement afin qu’ils puissent effectuer leur propre recherche sur les systèmes de santé et influencer les changements de politiques. En dehors de ses études, Tommaso aime voyager, cuisiner et apprendre de nouvelles langues.

Kristin Oakley

Kristin Oakley is currently a project coordinator at CAMH, leading the implementation of a structured mental health program across Ontario for older adults. Kristin began her career working with the Ministry of Health working to implement the Patients First Legislation, and holds a Master’s of Public Health from Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry. In her spare time, Kristin enjoys baking and shopping.   

Navneet Sandhu

Program Liaison / Agente de liaison

Navneet holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Health Studies, with a Minor in Psychology, from the University of Waterloo along with a Master of Public Health from the Schulich Inter-faculty Program in Public Health at Western University. With a strong background in public health, Navneet is interested in expanding this knowledge to the global level. Her passion for global health comes from her international volunteer experiences with MEDLIFE, where she gained experience with global health and international community development in South America. Her interest in the social determinants of health and health equity drive her interest in global health. Outside of her public health and global health experiences, Navneet enjoys travelling and dancing.  Something not on my resume: I trained in Punjabi folk dancing for about 7 years.
