The Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH) is a
national non-governmental organization with members committed to the
promotion of international health and development. CSIH members offer a
solid network of experts and experience with the Canadian government,
international agencies, non-governmental organizations and academia.
Among its many activities
CSIH:
- operates a database of international health expertise
for those wanting work overseas and for potential employers;
- through our international youth health internships
program, young Canadian professionals were sent to 75 countries since
September 1997, thereby building strong ties with private and public
sector organizations working in international health;
- facilitates networking and links among those who share
interests in health in development through various means, including both
electronic and print media;
- offers and supports professional development events,
including the Canadian Conference for International Health;
- as an executing agency, CSIH manages projects for CIDA,
the World Bank, DFAIT and Industry Canada in Latin America,
Central & Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia;
- Advocacy activities focus on peace & health and
monitoring the impact of trade on health in the global
economy.
Mission
The
Canadian Society for International Health, a national voluntary
organization, facilitates and supports health and development activities
around the world through the mobilization of Canadian and other resources.
CSIH advocates for health policy and programming which contributes
to global objectives of health for all, equity, and social justice and
builds partnerships with Canadian and other institutions and
organizations.
Strategic
Focus
The goal for the Society for the upcoming
years is:
To promote and sustain equity-based
approaches to health worldwide through the mobilization of Canadian
expertise and international resources.
The objectives to support this goal
are:

To advocate for policy and program
development for equity based approaches to reform for health
-
To build institutional and professional
capacity for sustainable health systems; and
Through this focus, the Society will be able
to collaborate with our members and partners in Canada and abroad in
health reforms that:

build the needed political and
administrative capacity and recognition of the importance of health in
overall policy development;
-
assist in the reorientation and
improvement in organizational and human capacity in organizations
responsible for formulating, planning and implementing integrated reform
for health; and,
-
improve facilitation of public
participation in policy and planning processes which have an impact on
health. |
