HEALTH INFORMATION SYSTEMS (HIS) STUDY TOUR
After recently concluding an intensive training course that covers various aspects of HIS -- from computer basics to databases and use of information for decision-making, CSIH hosted a study tour for a core group of 11 health professionals of the 70 people trained. The visitors spent ten days in Canada to gain a practical appreciation of how information systems are used within Canada's health system. As a result of site visits to various health settings and discussions with Canadians working in the health sector, our project participants have improved their understanding of how to effectively implement and use HIS within their own health systems.
Some of the study tour participants are currently working in the facilities where CSIH has installed an information system; others are working on developing their own databases or improving existing systems for better health management and planning. These institutions include: the Ganja City Health Department, Azerbaijan; National Centre for Disease Control and Medical Statistics, Georgia, the Public Health Centre, Gori Region, Georgia; and in Armenia Yerevan State Medical University, the National Institute of Health, the Artashat Maternity Hospital as well as the Ministry of Health.
