The Board of
Directors of the Canadian Society for International Health is pleased to
announce the election of a two new director’s and a new student representative
to the board for a two year term starting December 2007 to November 2009. Dr. Ramotar's primary function in his current job is to direct the molecular diagnostic and genotyping service offered by the Division of Microbiology. Dr. Ramotar is active in research and is currently part of a collaborative group studying bio-films in pathogens infecting Cystic Fibrosis patients. His primary research focus is molecular epidemiology of multi-resistant hospital acquired pathogens and has published a number of papers in this area. In 2004, he further expanded his activities into the international health field by returning to Guyana (where he was born and where he went to high school) as the principal technical laboratory consultant for the Canadian Society for International Health (CSIH) for the CIDA funded Public Health Strengthen in Guyana project. Dr. Ramotar has extensive expertise in the field of clinical diagnostic microbiology both in terms of technical and operational knowledge. His expertise in this area was instrumental in assisting in the implementation of diagnostic testing for TB and STIs for the PHSG project in Guyana
He is active
in various capacities in both the Canadian Association of Microbiology and
Infectious Diseases (CACMID) and Association of Medical Microbiology and
Infectious Diseases (AMMI-Canada)
