Young Professionals Placement Program

What is Expected?

Participants should be independent and motivated individuals who can adapt to the challenges of working, both alone and as part of a team, in a different cultural environment.

Each CSIH participant receives a grant to cover placement- related expenses (see below), as well as living expenses during the placement.  All other expenditures are the responsibility of the participant.

Once selected as a participant, you will be asked to sign a letter of agreement that outlines your responsibilities before, during, and after the placement.

Before the placement the Young Professional must:
-       arrange for and purchase the plane ticket to the country of the placement;
-         arrange for and acquire all necessary visas for travel;
-         arrange for and acquire all necessary travel, medical, and life insurance before departure;
-         arrange for and receive all required
medicals, vaccinations and medications required for the host country;
-         in consultation with the host organization representatives, arrange for accommodation in the host country;
-         complete the necessary forms required for CSIH and sponsoring agencies.

CSIH provides assistance if difficulties are encountered during the preparation time. All participants are in touch with CSIH via email and telephone on a daily or weekly basis during the departure preparation time.

CSIH also provides briefing materials to each selected participant, including brochures, pamphlets, instruction sheets, and other useful information on adapting to life in a new country.

CSIH maintains a contact list of all former participants (YPPP alumni) and new participants are put in contact with those who have returned from the same country or region.

All participants must attend a briefing session prior to departure, all costs are covered.

All participants are given emergency contact numbers where CSIH can be reached 24 hours a day during the time of their placement.

After the placement, participants receive debriefing materials, including a free one-year membership in CSIH, and are kept up-to-date on CSIH activities, job opportunities, conferences of interest, and training programs.

The CSIH annual Canadian Conference on International Health showcases the placement program by providing the opportunity for Young Professionals to make a presentation on their placement experience, as well as network with top international health professionals.

Other details are outlined in the participant's letter of agreement and acceptance forms.
