Scholarship and Fellowship Program
The Canadian component of the Commonwealth Plan facilitating students' study
abroad within the Commonwealth is administered by the International Council for
Canadian Studies (ICCS). Countries for study include: Australia, Brunei, India,
New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom. The award includes airfare,
tuition fees and a monthly stipend.

Bank of Missions
In order to facilitate the exchange of persons ("missions") between Canada and
other cultures, experienced individuals are awarded airfare and a daily
allowance to work in France or Mexico for a specific period, in a activity that
is not eligible for funding through other sources.

Canada-China
Scholars Exchange Program
Canadian faculty and students are eligible for this program; airfare and a
monthly stipend for research in China (four to twelve months) are granted. The
purpose is to encourage mutual understanding of both countries and cultures.

Canada-Latin America
Research Links Program
The AUCC together with IDRC offer two forms of grants intended to contribute to
transportation, lodging and food costs, for Canadian professors or graduate
students to study or research in Latin America. The Faculty Travel Grant offers
up to $4,000 for professors to travel (7-15 days) to Latin America. The Graduate
Student Internships reimburses the student up to $11,750 for a three to six
month placement in a research centre or institute in Latin America.

Canada Memorial
Awards
In memory of the Canadians who served with Great Britain in the World Wars, this
award is offered to Canadian post-graduate students who wish to study in the UK
for one year. Contact the Faculty of Graduate Studies at home Canadian
universities for information.
Canada-United States
Educational Exchange (Fulbright Exchange)
Canadian citizens are eligible for either a Faculty award of up to $25,000 for
three to nine months of research, or a Graduate award of up to $15,000 for nine
months of study, in the United States. The research is to pertain to the United
States or the relation between the US and Canada.

Canadian Bureau for
International Education (CBIE)
CBIE administers a number of different scholarship programs for Canadians
wishing to study abroad in addition to overseas internships and training
programs. Among awards administered is the Canadian International Development
Agency's (CIDA) Awards Program for Canadians, an annual competition offering up
to $15,000 to graduate students (not Ph.D. research) or professionals
researching or participating in international development through their own
initiative. Additionally the Celanese Canada Internationalist Fellowship (CCIF),awarding
$10,000 awards for graduate students who wish to study or do research at a
foreign university or institution, is managed by CBIE.

Development Research Centre (IDRC)
The IDRC's John G. Bene Fellowship in Social Forestry supports graduate students
wishing to do field research focusing on social forestry in a developing
country. The Young Canadian Researchers Awards supports the field research of
Canadian students pursuing a Ph.D.; the IDRC also offers internships and
training programs including awards encouraging journalism abroad.

The Japan Foundation
Research Fellowships are available for researchers, scholars or professionals to
undertake research in Japan, lasting between two and twelve months. The projects
are to directly relate to Japan, and focus upon social science and humanities,
or comparative, subjects.

Killam Awards
Two Killam Awards exist. The Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Prize is given in
recognition of careers that have significantly contributed to engineering,
health or natural sciences. The Killam Research Fellowships support scholars
undertaking "projects of broad significance and widespread interest" in either
the humanities, social sciences, health sciences, natural sciences, engineering
or connecting these fields.

Citizens of World Bank member countries, under the age of 35, with a masters or
equivalent, experienced in international economic development, are eligible for

Organization of
American States (OAS)
An OAS PRA Fellowship (Regular Training Program) helps Canadian graduate
students study in Latin America for at least three months and no more than two
years by providing, generally, a round-trip ticket, tuition fees, health
insurance and a small allowance. The OAS offers additional fellowships providing
similar benefits for work within and external to OAS member states. Information

The CBIE administers a large number of different scholarship programs for
non-Canadians wishing to study in Canada, in addition to offering short
exchanges, internships and training programs. The booklet, "Awards for Study in
