All 2012-2013 CSIH internships are currently pending funding - a decision is expected in March 2012. Please join us on Facebook for updates!

Paid Internships

CSIH manages 6 or 7 month paid internships in global health and Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) in developing countries, when funding is available under the government’s Youth Employment Strategy through programs such as the International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).  Currently, CSIH has 20 CIDA-sponsored interns in East Africa and the Caribbean gaining work experience with the African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF), Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Ministries of Health of Dominica and Suriname, Haven House (a women’s NGO in Belize), and the Smiles Foundation (SONRISAS) in the Dominican Republic.

Government-sponsored interns have their international travel and pre-departure expenses paid for by CSIH and receive a modest stipend to cover their living expenses overseas.  Applicants must be: 30 years of age or younger, Canadian citizens or permanent residents, unemployed or underemployed, and not enrolled at college or university while completing their internship.  University and college graduates in public health, international health, international development and health-related computer and information technologies are invited to apply for specific internships posted on this website and promoted at Canadian universities and elsewhere.  There are no paid internship opportunities available at the present time.

Self-Sponsored Internships

CSIH has a program to assist students and recent graduates in need of overseas work experience who able and willing to subsidize their own international travel and internship expenses. Unlike government-sponsored internships, placements under the Global Citizens for Global Health program (GCGH) may be used for university or college credit (subject to the agreement of the participant’s educational institution). For a modest administrative fee, CSIH will arrange short and long-term work placements with international and national health organizations, Canadian and foreign health and development NGOs, UN agencies and foreign Ministries of Health. CSIH will work with overseas partners to develop mutually beneficial internship parameters, provide pre-departure training and mentorship, monitor placements to ensure participants’ objectives are met, and mediate with overseas host organizations on behalf of interns. Applications may be submitted to amarshall@csih.org at any time. Internships may take up to 3 months to arrange.
