Strengthening Systems to Reduce Health Disparities and Combat the Major Causes of Ill Health and Premature Death -- Uganda

Internship Profile/Qualifications:

• Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology;
• Experience in creating and managing databases;
• Cross-cultural communication skills;
• Administrative skills;
• Training skills;
• Ability to work well in a team and independently.

Project Summary:

To strengthen the capacity of AMREF Uganda to implement and evaluate projects in support of the national government’s Health Sector Strategic Plan (HSSP) calling for reduced morbidity and mortality from the major causes of ill health and premature death, and reduced disparities in health. AMREF Uganda is a pioneer in the implementation of personal hygiene and sanitation education (PHASE) within schools and is leading the movement to create equitable access to education for girls in northern Uganda, especially in the area of science education. AMREF Uganda is also implementing a child immunization program which aims to increase full immunization among infants. The interns will strengthen the capacity of AMREF Uganda in Information Communications Technology (ICT), research and analysis, monitoring and evaluation systems and reporting and research mechanisms.

Internship Activities:

1. Staff training and/or technical assistance in day-to-day coordination associated with project activities.
2. Project field visits.
3. Staff training in adhering to reporting timeline and template developed during Project Administrative Officer internship.
4. Participation in staff and community meetings.
5. Staff training and/or technical assistance in collecting project data, conducting research and analysis and creating tools/ materials for sharing and storing information.
6. Coordination of information session to share project report information with AMREF staff.
