Internship Profile/Qualifications:

• Relevant University Degree;
• Experience in ICT;
• Experience in creating and managing databases;
• Experience proposal and report writing;
• Excellent writing and communication skills;
• Cross-cultural communication skills;
• Public speaking and facilitation experience;
• Knowledge of African health development issues;
• Ability to work well in a team and independently.

Project Summary:

To increase the capacity of AMREF Kenya to strengthen health systems through capacity building of health workers, health facilities, and Government of Kenya structures. There is close similarity between the government’s National Health Sector Strategic Plan (NHSSP) and AMREF’s strategy to strengthen health systems. AMREF envisages mixed public-private partnerships in national, district and community health systems that include multiple actors, including: government, civil society, traditional health providers and the business sector. The interns will help to achieve the shared objectives of AMREF Kenya and the national government by improving health systems management through the strengthening of ICT, monitoring and evaluation systems and reporting and research mechanisms to share information.

Internship Activities:

1. Technical assistance and staff training in database development for improved project administration and management.
2. Staff training and/or technical assistance in administration as needed.
3. Staff training in ICT strengthening for effective and consistent use of information systems.
4. Project field visits.
5. Research, development and staff training on appropriate project monitoring & evaluation methodologies/tools.
6. Staff training in conjunction with the development of a project performance checklist.
7. Staff training in conjunction with the development of project activity work plans and reporting schedules.
