Advocacy
The CSIH Approach
CSIH’s advocacy
efforts are channeled through its guiding organizational principles.
CSIH believes that learning, knowledge, strategic partnerships,
and solidarity are imperative to achieving equitable global health and
the realization of the human right to health (click to read CSIH’s guiding
values and principles).
CSIH promotes the
need to translate knowledge and evidence into action.
CSIH advocates for the judicious use of the best evidence available to shape
effective global health programming and policy. Through the promotion of
cooperation and the creation of spaces for researchers, NGO workers, community
health professionals and government representatives to analyze and disseminate
lessons learned and best practices, CSIH is helping to build the global health
evidence base and encouraging innovation.
CSIH’s
value-added is its representation strength. With a broad
membership base
and long-term alliances with the wider global health community, CSIH is placed
in a unique position to facilitate collaboration among various stakeholders to
collectively advocate for programs and policy that aim to improve global health.
These stakeholders include NGOs, academic and research institutions,
professional associations, government health institutions (including federal,
provincial and local health ministries and agencies), as well as individuals
interested and involved in global health.
CSIH endeavors to
direct national and global attention to critical global health issues in a
timely manner.
By
working in partnership with other stakeholders, concentration on specific issues
in targeted efforts allows the global health community in Canada to speak
collectively with a louder and harmonious voice. Additionally, focused dialogue
and action provides an opportunity to examine best practices in specific issue
areas, further promoting an evidence-based approach to future action and policy.
